yourphyto researchThe eagerly anticipated results of the latest cancer nutritional intervention study were published in the medical Journal European Urology Oncology.  Led by Professor Thomas and his team, this is now the largest, comprehensive evaluation of an up-to-date nutritional interventions in this field.

yourphyto trial results

The Trial Design: 220 men with early but progressive prostate cancer recruited at a Cambridge University affiliated Hospital. All men were given  the new phytochemical rich food blend, YourPhyto, designed specifically for this study by the scientific committee.  In addition, men were blindly randomised to take a specific probiotic/inulin/vitamin D blend called YourgutPlus or placebo.

The results in a nutshell: These two nutrition interventions were well tolerated and safe. Men who stopped all other previous supplements and took 2 capsules of each supplement had a significant:

  • 44% slower rate prostate cancer progression measured by PSA
  • MRI disease correlated with PSA & stabilised or shrunk in 91%
  • Men with urinary symptoms had a 25% improvement
  • Men with issues with erectile function had a 11% improvement

.

What these results mean: This trial had a significantly impact on the international research community since its oral presentation at the prestigious ASCO Urology conference.  It confirms the role for YourPhyto as a practical tool for safely boosting phytochemical rich foods and is the World’s first robust studies to demonstrated that a specifically designed  intervention aiming to improve gut health further slowed cancer progression and improves urinary symptoms. We now have scientific evidence for health professionals and practical guidance for people with cancer, interested in empowering themselves with the most effective strategies to improve their well-being and help avoid or delay the toxicities of hormonal, radiotherapy or surgical treatments.

Why were these new supplements made for this study:

yourphyto gut healthYourPhyto  contains pomegranate, broccoli, green tea and turmeric, shown to be beneficial in previous studies, by the same research group but now includes new ingredients and embraces advances in food fortification, safety and technology. This includes purification, measurement and standardisation of the candidate phytochemical ensuring each capsule maintains its effectiveness and safety. Traditionally supplements either have extracts of plants or dried whole plants – uniquely, this new supplement has both. This ensures a wide spectrum of synergistically acting natural elements from the whole plant, but also boosts levels of the most active phytochemicals responsible for the health benefits.

Screenshot 2023 01 08 at 18.15.33Over the last 10 years, other foods have also demonstrated benefits in studies, particularly cranberry and organic ginger, both of which are included in these capsules.  Cranberry reduced markers of disease progression and helped urinary urgency. Ginger, helped with digestion and gut health and is a known bio-enhancer, meaning it promotes the absorption of healthy phytochemicals.

Yourgutplus, contains 5 non-histamine inducing, non-diary, lactose secreting lactobacillus bacterial strains, combined with inulin from chicory, and vitamin D. It was previously evaluated and found to be beneficial in the UK national COVID nutritional intervention study and was chosen for the current covid vaccine support study – so has an excellent track record.

Synergy between these two product: Laboratory studies have shown that phytochemicals  and probiotics work in synergy to improve gut health, reduce inflammation in the body. This is the first trial to confirm this beneficial synergy in humans and has opened up numerous other potential benefits not only for cancer, symptoms related to treatments and other inflammatory related diseases.

prostate MRIThe reassurance of MRI: Unique for a  nutritional trial, was the finding that MRI scans taken, before and after the interventions, supported the PSA findings. In the combined group, disease on MRI actually reduced in size in 7% and stabilised in 84%. This provides solid proof that these supplement had an impact on the underlying dsease itself rather just influencing PSA.

What we also learnt from this trial

Grip strength and markers of longevity:

grip strengthYourphyto results gripLow grip strength (GS), along with inflammation levels is a practical biomarker for increasing age (longevity), the risk of chronic degenerative disease, including cancer. In younger people, particularly athletes, phytochemical-rich foods and probiotics have independently been shown to improve strength and performance.

This is also the first study showing a statistically significant effect on grip strength following intake of two nutritional intervention  in an older population.

In conclusion:

YourPhyto, is now the most up-to-date, comprehensively researched supplement available over the counter.  It’s acclaimed scientific evaluation, not only significantly slowed PSA progression, but for the first time it, also improved urinary symptoms and erectile function.  This is the World’s first double blind RCT to demonstrate that a probiotic intervention, Yourgutplus, aiming to improve gut health, further reduced PSA progression, reduced longevity markers of inflammation and improved grip strength. This combination has been choice for a major intervention study in Women (see below) and further trials are planned evaluating their role for enhancing other stages of prostate cancer and other cancers as well as benefits for sports performance, strength and longevity.

Other news: The Women’s nutritional intervention Trial announced:

hot flushesThe design of this new major UK study has been initiated by a team of Oncologists and integrative physicians at University College Hospital London. It aims to confirm previous published data that boosting healthy plant based phytochemical rich foods could help alleviate hot flushes, joint pains, mood, and other hormone related symptoms. The scientific committee have decided to use the newly developed phytochemical supplement YourPhyto and the probiotic YourGutPlus,  for women (and some men) who have troublesome hormone related symptoms. The randomised trial aims to start recruiting in 2026.
